What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I listen to various podcasts somewhat compulsively, but this season of Past Gas has been the best of all of them so far. It’s the only one in memory which I can honestly say, I would eagerly wait for each week to hear about the history of my favorite cars and how they came to be (as a big JDM nerd). This format is exponentially better than the previous one, which was not distinguishable from any others in the space (interviews, ad hoc conversations, etc.). I know from experience that spending time cultivating a story, paring it down, fact checking, validating—it’s all hard. But, in the end, it feels like a very dense treat to indulge in, unlike many of the daily slop podcasts that are out there for consumption. Kudos to Nolan for his presentation and Joe for his behind the scenes work.

I’ve really enjoyed the new format, with the deeper dive into the JDM topic. Nolan is killing it as a host, and I can really feel the passion and the effort that goes into making such a high quality production. To everyone involved, thank you. Keep it up!

Really enjoying the new format, and the deeper dive you are giving to the topics. However like many others I miss the banter between Nolan, Bart, and Joe. Maybe on the next season we could bring back Bart even if for only a cameo. Regardless I have loved the Golden Era of JDM, and Nolan is doing an amazing job telling the story!

ProjectFlat4 · May 2026

This is the perfect podcast to listen to when bored and need something to do, and for waking up on rough mornings. With the humor and a lot of facts you didn’t know about auto history! Everything about this podcast is so interesting and informative and also perfect. So it knocked 5 stars out of the park!

You tried but it’s not working. Yes it’s more cost effective to have hosts do individual shows but not if we stop listening. The content is great & Nolan is doing a great job reading the content, but that’s what it feels like, just content. I listened in the past for the banter between ALL THREE HOSTS and that’s what is missing. Like when Jeremy, Richard & James were together, they were like 3 perfectly balanced pistons working together to create the perfect engine, way more than each could ever achieve individually. Please bring the format & the gang back. Nolan, Joe & Bart were getting pretty close to that perfect engine.

I love this show, and have been eager for Donut to start back up. However, this new format of just reading a script isn’t for me :/ the banter between the Donut Media crew is what makes the show peak. When I’m on long road trips the old format made it feel like your talking shop and hanging with the boys. Now it feels like a class project that your buddy is presented about a topic that I find interesting and you know they worked really hard on. I’ll still listen to every episode released but man I really need more personality from this show like it had for 300+ episodes.
