The Road To Joni

by SHEROES/Talkhouse

SHEROES is proud to present The Road To Joni - a limited audio series and travelogue devoted to SHERO Joni Mitchell. Our first all-genders series will include interviews with artists and some non-musicians about their own roads to Joni Mitchell, where that road has led them, and how they see Joni’s artistic road as an influence on music and culture as we know it today. In September host Carmel Holt will be embarking on a cross country road trip, stopping along the way in public radio markets where SHEROES Radio airs, with a destination of the Joni Jam at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA on October 19 & 20, 2024. Ten weekly one-hour episodes will include: interviews, Road To Joni playlists, and a handful of live recorded events produced in partnership with radio affiliates. The first episode drops on September 6th, and the finale on Joni’s 81st birthday, November 7th.  This innovative new series will be hosted and produced by Carmel Holt, former on-air host, interviewer and Asst. Music Director at WFUV in New York City, creator / host / producer of the nationally syndicated radio show SHEROES Radio, the SHEROES Podcast, and the Webby-nominated Sonos Radio podcast SHEROES Mixtape Memoir.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

My favorite thing about this podcast was to hear how music impacts and influences each of us in a very significant way. The diverse voices interviewed anchor their love for Joni in their unique way. I was fortunate enough to be in the audience for one of the shows discussions and couldn’t wait to hear the rest of the artists stories.

This has been an amazing podcast. You don’t need to be a Joni fan to listen, but you’ll be one by the time it’s done. Every interview Carmel captured resonates with love and admiration for a singular artist who has earned her spot in the pantheon of American music. For musicians and music lovers, this can’t be skipped. The Road to Joni showcases more than Joni’s music, it details her life, resilience, and never-ending search for connection, the key to any great artist. I’m glad Carmel and her team put this together to keep that Joni connection strong. Well done!

I wish I knew about The Road To Joni series before Oct. 20th, when I was finally able to attend my first Joni Mitchell concert at the Hollywood Bowl. What an amazing experience. I discovered Joni in 1974, when I acquired my first Joni album, Court and Spark. I was 12 years old and she introduced me to a new universe of music. The Road To Joni is excellent, Carmel’s interviews peel back the many layers of Joni Mitchell, her work, and her impact on other artists. This podcast made my appreciation for Joni even richer. Thank you, Carmel, for your inspiration and work. You can’t help but be touched and enlightened by this series. I made my $ contribution with an open heart.

…more accurately a series of love letters and postcards! Artists and friends and admirers talking all things Joni, this is warm and feel good but also very informative. Carmel Holt is a great interviewer and has a wonderful grasp on curating. Highly recommended!
