An good choice for both newer and more seasoned wrestling fans, two of the best minds in the business (a fact which I have gathered from listening to this podcast) give plenty of background information in their assessments of the cases for greatness of each wrestler, introducing newer fans to their careers and historical milieus, but also use that as a framing for excellent analysis, making the show essential listening for more seasoned fans as well. My nomination for the wheel is Jay Briscoe.
Orchid and Colette find fascinating ways to prove each week’s subject is a contender for the greatest wrestler of all time. Whether it’s reveling in their jovial silliness, excelling against adversity in the industry, a willingness to sacrifice self for sport and anything else to support their case. Episodes are fueled by deep-dive research that is easily accessible to listeners and a beautiful co-hosting dynamic between two truly kindred spirits. I’d love to see them add a one-woman revolution to the wheel; Mercedes Varnado.
Maybe the perfect wrestling podcast. If you only listen to one, it should be this one. Love hearing such a comprehensive, thoughtful dive into each wrestler’s career. As someone who’s loved wrestling for years but whose knowledge is not terribly expansive, it’s great to hear these histories told by people who care so much about it. I would love to hear an episode on Nigel McGuinness.
The very premise of this show is fascinating and heartening: anybody could be the greatest. It’s a heart and guts-forward way to give the workers their flowers. The Fred Ottman episode is already the quintessential and best one, though I’m also loving the DDP stuff so far. I love every episode, even the Megumi Kudo one. As a lapsed fan who really only ever knew WWF/E and WCW, she was a completely unknown quantity to me, but the passion and detail in the discussion had me hooked all the way. Hey! Add Brooklyn Brawler to the wheel.
