A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

Natalie and Harless do an excellent job covering the story content of Magic. My only complaint is the changing of the podcast format. The Phyrexian arc and shortly after, doing all of the story recaps, where the girls were telling their perspectives and flavor using some excerpts from the actual story, was excellent. Starting with Murders at Karlov Manor, the format changed to tell the audio story and then gave the recap, was pretty good. The recaps used more story quotes and were less original, but Natalie and Harless still did a great job. Bloomburrow is my wife’s favorite set, so when I asked if she wanted to hear the story, she was excited. However, we were disappointed to find the audiobooks and only one episode of recap that tried to condense the entire story into 45 minutes with very little of the trademark flavor and originality from the girls. I know you can’t please everyone, especially with something like a podcast, but I think it would be nice if we at least got an explanation on how and why things have changed (unless that type of a description is available on a different platform and not on the podcast directly). But overall, if you are curious or excited about the Magic story, this podcast is still a good resource.

I used to read MTG stories to my kids at bedtime, but now they’re older—sadly, that time has passed. This podcast has been a great way to stay up on the lore, and I really appreciate the hosts’ enthusiasm for the stories and characters; it reminds me of my kids.

I’ve been listening to this podcast since MOM and have enjoyed that it changed from a recap show to a reading of the story and a recap show. I think the newest format of all stories and then a recap episode is fantastic and works really well. I hope y'all continue this forever! I do have one complaint though. I think this show needs someone to do a QC listen before episodes get posted. Every episode this season has a had what was supposed to be a retake but it wasn’t cut out. Some episodes had multiple instances. This has happened in past season and it’s usually once or twice per season but this go round it was every single episode. Keep up the great work and i look forward to hearing more from y’all!!

This is exactly everything I’ve been looking for in a magic podcast, and the addition of the full narration of the episodes has brought it to the next level. Honestly I’ve been meaning to leave my review since the interview with Miguel Lopez and Ovidio Cartagena because the insight that episode gave to the design, high level of planning and execution of the story alongside the cards themselves was amazing to hear, and I would LOVE to have something similar for each new set. To hear the different perspective from the design and art teams was (and would be) an amazing addition. I am glad I waited to leave my review because the fact that you have included the narration going forward is absolutely brilliant. I typically listen on my ride to and from work, and your breakdown of the story had always been incredibly in depth and entertaining, but with a full time job and a toddler at home I just have had a hard time keeping up with the story itself, and while the YouTube narration was great, it’s much harder to be able to switch episodes while I’m driving. You are both amazing, keep up the amazing work you do!! TLDR: (for potential listeners) Natalie and Harless and amazing, the new addition of the narration of the story is a huge bonus to an already brilliant analysis and I look forward to more interviews with the design team.

The hosts consistently tell inaccuracies in lore with so much confidence. Two examples off of the top of my head are: 1.) Karn accidentally created the Phyrexians. Which is a very bad retelling of what actually happened. - episode 27 2.) Urza built the Sylex. Which is obviously just an assumption stated as fact bc the Golgothian Sylex that Urza used at the end of the Brother’s War was found by Feldon. -episode 48 It’s very upsetting that an official WoTC podcast can have little to no oversight that this level of egregious misrepresentation of Magic lore is allowed to be released.

Ben Worse · Feb 2025

Only subbed to this podcast for the audio versions of the magic story, do not care about the episodes with the narrators summarizing and speculating. However, even with only caring about the magic story audio episodes, these releases are horribly slowly paced compared to the written story and the set release. The set is already fully released at this point and the story audio will still take an additional 5 weeks to finish. There’s no point in releasing the story if it doesn’t come out in conjunction with the cards - looking at the cards will have already spoiled the story at this point. It would be better to speed up the story audio releases in the future.
