Dr. McClay has a phenomenal knowledge of history and a down-to-earth manner of retelling it. The only negative would be his style of speaking. He begins a sentence at full volume, then trails off as he speaks the final phrases almost to the point of speaking under his breath. This wide modulation means either having him shout at you (if the volume is up) or missing the ends of his sentences (if the volume is down).

This is one of the most informative podcasts I have ever heard. The combined knowledge of the staff of Hillsdale College is incalculable, and for them to be generous and humble enough to share that with the world through this format is such a blessing. I have enjoyed Hillsdale Online Courses for nigh on a decade. I really enjoy the podcasts as I am able to multitask while listening. The online works, also, but I cannot multitask because I have to do subject matter tests. The programs on Marxism, socialism and Communism, as well as the Totalitarian Novels, are must listen!

Pro: Edu should be available to all who wish to learn. I 100% support what you are doing. I wish more univ would do the same.
Con: It is truly sad to hear the underlying hate in many lectures. Why is every topic presented in 2?
In 2, meaning: godly/evil, good/bad, right/wrong, help/harm, day/night, and so on. Please see that when the world is viewed this way, hate can be the only outcome. It is human to feel your personal morals, virtues, beliefs, etc are the ‘correct’ way of life. Therefore, using the examples I listed above, you are: godly, good, right, help, daylight, etc.
If the person sitting next to you has a different understanding of the world than yours, in the binary thought pattern, that person must then be evil, bad, wrong, harm, darkness, etc. Because if you represent what’s ‘right’ any one different than you must be ‘wrong’
breeding intolerance and HATE.
Why must we be all or nothing? Why must one difference in opinion result in an automatic opposite and negative characterization of that ENTIRE person?
This way of living ignores the nuances of life. No one is 100% godly or evil, right or wrong, help or harm….
Assumptions go hand in hand with binary worldviews. No one listens to each other -or cares to bc if my views are ‘correct’ that makes yours automatically wrong and evil.
So, anything or anyone not supporting or perpetuating your view is automatically against you, right?
I am not against you. I simply live a different life, in a different place, with different family shaping my personal beliefs. If you get to the core, the story under the triggering buzzword surface story (that our citizens cannot seem to see past), connections can be made.
