As an aspiring author, I’ve listened to countless writing and publishing podcasts, and they’ve all helped and inspired me in different ways. There are the author interviews that romanticize and inspire, the emotional discussions that touch on the roller coaster of merging art and business, and I feel like Write the Book, Play the Game offers real talk, practical advice, and tools to navigate a crazy, wonderful, wild career. I love that even when talking about how much is out of the author’s control in publishing, Andrea and Gretchen always find a way to bring it back to practical things authors can do to keep moving forward. With so many people bemoaning the ways publishing has changed (and a rapidly changing culture/world), it’s refreshing to hear how to keep a level head through it all. I’m still yet to enter the publishing world with my own writing, but I know I’ll be coming back to these episodes again and again throughout my career.
