I’ve been listening to true crime podcasts ever since Serial was first released and I truly don’t believe that I have ever been so throughly moved by a podcast as I have been by this one. This podcast encapsulates what incredible journalism looks like and the brilliant results that it can produce. Sam Poling’s perseverance to discover the truth behind Emma’s murder led her down a path that not only answers this question, but also brings attention (which led to an internal investigation) to Scotland police’s catastrophic failures while empowering victims and giving them something the police refused to- a voice. This podcast is so much more than just your standard true crime who done it. It’s a throughly investigated piece of journalism that will hook you within the first 5 minutes and will cause a flurry of intense emotions unlike any other podcast has ever been able to do before it. It’s thrilling, heartbreaking, gripping, and empowering. Seriously beyond brilliant work! I won’t be able to stop raving about this one for years to come.

Nothing can adequately describe what a breathtaking podcast this is. I listened to it in one go over the course of a day - and in a world full of distractions, that is a real testament to the incredible story telling, and the bravery of the women and police involved in talking. There is hardly a better definition of what great journalism is about than this investigation by the inimitable Sam and her team - they are the best in the business.

It starts with Emma’s story and expertly moves through several unbelievable, adjacent stories. Incredible investigative journalism. You’ll feel disheartened, angry, relieved, hopeful, surprised …. It’s a ride worth taking for sure.

Just want to say a huge thanks to Sam.
This story was told with such grace, empathy and intelligence. The light has been shown, and there’s so many lessons to take away from this. I’ve never cried this much listening to any podcast. This was so amazingly well done.
