Jacob Givens is a huge inspiration. He’s never afraid to speak with an open heart and with caring passion about his favorite music. It’s so refreshing to listen to a podcast by someone who loves and cares about 90s music as much, it seems, as I do without ever covering up his enthusiasm and joy with jaded cynicism or sarcasm (i.e.: “Songs That Explain the 90s” - ugh). Jacob’s episode on Tori Amos was beautiful. I love that he’s incorporating more interviews with musicians that came up in the 90s or are currently supporting bands that blew up then. I feel like the sky is the limit for this podcast. If you were bowled over by Sonic Youth’s “Dirty” and ever cried after a break-up while listening to The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Mayonaise,” this podcast is for you.

Jacob’s energy is awesome! I only listen to a handful of podcasts but I’m super glad I came across this one after finding him on tiktok. He has an incredible way of reviewing an album in a way that’s both historically accurate and anecdotally compelling. I swear I learn something new about bands I thought I knew everything about after each episode. Keep ‘em comin!

Every time I listen to this podcast it feels like talking about music and memories with a friend. It’s refreshing just to hear about someone’s love of music without them having to show how much they know about music. Thank you for making this talking about music with a friend type podcast.
