Title: A Masterpiece That Redefines Sports Commentary
In an era oversaturated with sports podcasts, where mediocrity often reigns supreme, The “rBillSimmons” Podcast is a revelation. This is not just a sports podcast—this is the podcast Bill Simmons and The Ringer *should have* created, an heir to the irreverent brilliance of Deadspin, the creative spark of ESPN Page 2, and the journalistic depth of Grantland. Imagine the incisiveness of TheRinger.com’s early days, stripped of corporate polish and infused with a raw, unfiltered energy. Now imagine it even better. That’s what it delivers. It just does.
This podcast feels like a love letter to sports, both mainstream and obscure, but it’s so much more than that. It dissects culture, fandom, and the narratives that shape how we engage with the games we love. The hosts are master storytellers, weaving analysis, humor, and the occasional righteous rant into episodes that feel essential—not just entertaining.
What sets this podcast apart is its fearless approach. It tackles the topics Simmons and company have seemingly sidestepped in favor of safer fare. Where The Ringer has grown comfortable, “rBillSimmons” is boldly innovative, taking risks that pay off every single time. It’s as if the creators studied the flaws and missed opportunities of every great sports platform of the past two decades and set out to correct them.
If Grantland was sports journalism’s “Golden Age,” this podcast is its renaissance. It’s smarter, wittier, and unapologetically authentic. Like the first time you saw Saving Private Ryan and realized movies could change the way we perceive history, this podcast reshapes how we think about sports storytelling. It’s extraordinary—daring, uncompromising, and utterly captivating.
Simply put, this is the future of sports media. If you’re not listening, you’re missing the conversation.

RBS has some unique insights into Bill Simmons and sports media!
The guests he has on are a little eccentric, but they are interesting (and sometimes funny).
This is a fun listen because RBS is slowly finding his way as a podcaster and developing his voice.
I expect that he’ll move away from purely talking about Bill Simmons and move into other sports-related issues in episodes to come.
Keep on podding on!

This podcast is good at one thing - taking about Bill Simmons and the Ringer. This is what the podcast is called and about, so kudos. It’s a very small niche, and there is no competition, so it does its job well.
However, the podcast gets HORRENDOUS when it goes beyond its scope - namely talking about anything beyond the Ringer, things like media or sports in general. The takes are childish and even clownish. That’s when you compare this pod to other professional pods dedicated to those topics, and the quality deficiencies become apparent.
I suggests it sticks strictly to what it’s advertised - about Bill Simmons and the Ringer.
