Not too many true crime podcasts share as much detail as this one did into the ethics around sharing these types of stories and it was really interesting to hear about that from the journalist perspective as well as the Joy’s family. Heartbreaking story, but such an important one. Just finished the last episode and was left with chills. A very compelling listen!

This is a heartbreaking story shared with empathy, kindness and fairness. An organization that is truly good and right should operate in the light, and Joy’s story deserves to be to be told.

This was predominately about the IUIC, and that was interesting. However, the podcast struggled to find a cohesive narrative by trying to be both about the church and Joy. It left it not being an in-depth look at either. Also, the City of Hope episode could have been five minutes long.

A lot of the reviews about this podcast are awful. I am a picky podcast listener admittedly, but the story telling for this is BRILLIANT. Americans getting offended by it, is dumb (I'm speaking as an American here). It's extremely unfortunate Joy fell into the wrong group of people :( that was absolutely heartbreaking to hear. Thank you for sharing her story and shining light on what happened

This podcast lacked an identity- not sure what the podcaster wanted this to be? As others mentioned— was this about a victim and closure or about exposing a potentially dangerous group that verges on a cult? Either one didn’t land. You find yourself saying, pick a lane, or merge into one story. Neither happened. Also, the podcaster references themselves as a journalist, this a journalistic piece, and journalistic integrity—yet provided misinformation (evening managing to work in false narratives surrounding Israel, the USA, and Ukraine, which were irrelevant to the narrative, but obviously showed the podcasters bias).

Confusing and hypocritical that this podcast creator did such a beautiful job of researching the cultish Black Israelites and the danger they pose to the black community, but then spreads dangerous misinformation about the state Israel that perpetuates antisemitism.
