Jimmy Dore is an interesting voice, and he brings a mix of good guests, humor and cynicism into his show to give another view of what’s going on in the world. Since he’s a comedian, don’t expect a stoic, humorless show. He does however try to maintain an appropriate level of seriousness during topics that require it.
Which brings us to Kurt Metzger. He is there to inject humor into the show, but Metzger has no on/off button. He cannot shut up no matter what subject is being discussed, and what’s worse, he cannot read the room. He is always trying for the hit “one-liner”. He’s the annoying class clown who is in constant “seeking approval” mode. Dore has a high tolerance for Metzger, but if you watch the show on YouTube, you can see that even Dore gets weary of the interruptions.
What’s worse than Metzger missing a line? When he lands one. That just fuels him to keep going. There are times when Dore is presenting a story, and Metzger will interrupt him after every sentence to give his “commentary”, usually followed by a forced Metzger laugh.
This show was very good before Metzger was brought in. I wish they would work on his on air behavior. If he’s not capable of controlling himself, pull him off the air, and pay him to write jokes for the show.
When Metzger is subdued (or bonus! not in studio), the show works. When he’s not subdued (which is almost all the time), it’s almost impossible to get through. I find myself turning the show off long before it’s over because Metzger is so annoying and distracting. Metzger is like a hyperactive, yappy dog who ate a few adderalls and cannot stop barking.

Jimmy Dore strikes a balance between the bleak realities of national politics and the need to laugh to keep from crawling into a dark corner.
Love the phone-in interviews!

I ignore the divisive dem vs rep rhetoric, and converse with anyone willing to have a conversation based on facts. Interestingly, I regularly have enjoyable dialogue with Libertarians, Democrats, Republicans as well as Green Party members. Obviously, I’m not combative, but listen, lend agreement where I can, and then respectfully share or merely inquire.
I’ve found that very few are entirely devoted to ideas belonging to just one party. Everyone seems to be agree with a Libertarian’s principle of freedom, for example. We can focus our similarities and build coalitions to help those marginalized individuals who fall prey to the dark sides of how our societies are run.
I suppose those of us whose individual ideas can be found in various parties, could technically make us moderates. I used to bristle at that type of characterization, but now find that embracing the moniker helps have more productive conversations. Isn’t it productive action that makes any kind of difference?
This all stands in stark contrast to how the 2 party divide is popularly portrayed. Jimmy is one of a handful of individuals across a broad spectrum of political ideologies, to whom I turn for my news.
And it doesn’t hurt that he’s funny!

I dont have to agree with all of jimmy’s political points but he is willing to explain and put it all on the table as to why he thinks so. He also is respectful to others he disagrees with while providing a fair assessment of his views. Refreshing to hear his perspective considering all the political trash shows on all spectrums. Free thinkers will enjoy this content. When you agree to everything you hear or read, re-evaluate what content you consume. Thats why I enjoy this show.

I used to love this podcast, it was one of the first political shows I started listening to. I heard Jimmy on TYT and when he started his own show a few years ago, I started listening.
I find it unfortunate how he has devolved into being much more emotional in the past year or so, even moreso recently. He says some things that I know for a fact are false, or at least require more context which he doesn't give.
He usually comes off as abrasive, and I understand how it can be frustrating to deal with politics and politicians, but he turns on, and starts relentlessly attacking, a politician the second they don't do something in the EXACT way he thinks they should. I am super lefty, very Progressive, and while Jimmy claims to be a progressive, he seems more like alt-right most of the time.
I understand that there is no perfect politician, but Jimmy seems to think that is actually attainable, just no one has attained it yet. And, while I do understand the importance of pushing politicians in the direction you want them to go, he just comes off as downright aggressive and unable to hold a substantive conversation with anyone he disagrees with.
AOC isn't good enough for him. Bernie isn't good enough for him. I can't think of a single politician he EVER speaks favorably about, even on a single issue. Everything is always so negative. He devolves into yelling and pettiness and smears when confronted with something or someone he disagrees with (which is apparently everything and everyone except Aaron Mate). Things are very black and white with him- you're either completely 100 percent with him in every single way, or you must be a corporate shill and therefore your opinion is invalid.
I greatly enjoy his attacking of corporate politicians, although he has only talked about Democrats for the past three years. However, those attacks on corporate Dems have lately bled into attacking people like AOC and Sanders, saying they are exactly the same as people like Pelosi. They are nowhere NEAR the same. They aren't even in the same ballpark. I hate Clinton, but she is NOT the exact same as trump. it's when he says stuff that like this that makes me question if he is just a grifter.
He is overall divisive and counterproductive, and his one-sided war with TYT (he lies about them constantly... and doesn't even bother to back up his assertions) has really put me off. He comes off as a right-winger, tbh.
I miss his old shows because he is sometimes funny and has had good takes about the economy. But he was at his best when pointing out the fallacies of the right wing. The show could be 5 stars, if he still had that format.
PS update— holy s, this has offically turned the corner into right wing propaganda... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
What a serious letdown jimmy has become.
TLDR- You'll probably really enjoy this if you're a right winger who doesn't pay attention to policy and is only a right winger because of identity politics and to hate on the Dems and the Left.
If you're progressive or lefty, try The Young Turks, AM Quickie, Majority Report, David Pakman. All excellent solid news podcasts.
If you're looking for a little more comedy in your news, then The Damage Report has some snark and personality, The Bitchuation Room is epically funny, and also The Bugle is hilarious if you can stand a British accent. Worst Year Ever and Even More News are also quirky and lean comedic.

Listened and enjoyed Jimmy’s show on KPFK for many years when he was part of an ensemble cast. Then he decided to go it alone, which marked a major change in direction, and after a few years I’d had enough. During the Trump presidency he was more critical of the Democratic Party than he was of the insanity taking place at the White House, to the point that you would rarely hear him criticize the Right at all. In fact, to a most disturbing degree, almost like his change of direction is being incentivized by something else 🤔 Those on the Left know that the mainstream Democratic Party are far from being perfect, and that they are part of the political problem. But Jimmy is an absolutist, and therefore not a very smart analyst - its 100% or nothing at all. If you happened to be a first-time listener, you might be forgiven for thinking that you had stumbled upon a right-wing talk show even though he maintains that he is a “true” leftist. Honestly Jimmy, it’s time to come clean, who is really paying you these days?💰
