As a born and raised Catholic, who has become rather frustrated with religion(s) and ESPECIALLY the Christian Nationalist movement, a friend recommended your podcast a few weeks ago, and when I say I look forward to your weekly episodes that is the understatement of the year. THANK YOU for being a sane and truly biblical- and Christ-based voice in the midst of a lot of “noise.” You bring so much peace to my weary soul… and I’m not sure who says you need to be more serious, but laughing along with you brings deeply needed joy to my heart.

Discovered you all during the pandemic, as our church community was crumbling, in response to COVID restrictions and the murder of George Floyd. I greatly appreciate the community you have created! Thank you! You have helped me stay hope-filled and not so alone in the way I understand how God is asking me to be in the world.

I find this show thoughtful, but have to point out the different tones in these latest political interviews. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was interviewed in a tough and aggressive manner. The discussion on abortion was intense. The John Kasich interview was a fanboy interview. I wonder why he wasn’t asked about abortion? He has nuanced views that would have interesting to hear him unpack.

As someone who grew up in the Christian right but has grown more to the left, I appreciate that Phil, Skye, and Kaitlyn bring the Christian right to task on a number of issues. That is especially courageous in these polarized times especially considering the absolute trashing Phil often takes on social media for daring to speak truth to power.
However, there are multiple times an episode where the hosts talk about the left and Democrats where I believe their views are skewed by what the Christian right has said about the “other side” and this results in incorrect and unfair commentary on a side of the debate that has no voice on the show.
The recent episode that featured an interview with Sen. Gillibrand, which I thought was a great attempt to build bridges with “the other side,” is a perfect example of this. The discussion the hosts had after the interview was overly scathing and focused on the negative and some of this was based on a wrong understanding or a twisting of words. There were several things that were brought up about the interview where I, as someone who leans left, do not recognize the arguments against Gillibrand as being a fair representation of what she said.
A specific example of false views of the left that was mentioned during the episode was that people on the left are for open borders. Yet as someone who spends a lot of time in left leaning circles, I’ve met not a single person that favors open borders.
I think it would help the show to have a more moderate or left leaning person on the show to dispel some of the myths about the left that are propagated by the hosts.
