Comedy Interviews · American Public Media
by American Public Media
The groundbreaking, award-winning mental health podcast is under new ownership after six years ago. Old ownership, really, since it's now run by original host John Moe. Join John for new and classic content for frank, moving, and, yes, funny conversations with important artists who have dealt with depression and other mental health conditions. Maria Bamford, Paul F. Tompkins, Andy Richter, Open Mike Eagle, Daryl DMC McDaniels, Gary Gulman, and more. The Hilarious World of Depression is not medical treatment and should not be seen as a substitute for therapy or medication. But it is a chance to feel less alone. The Hilarious World of Depression (THWoD) was co-created by American Public Media with support from Health Partners.

The original run of the show helped me keep my head above water during some of the darkest times of my life. It was beyond valuable in helping me feel less alone and for giving me perspective on many of the challenges my severe depression presented. For me, laughter truly is the best medicine. (Especially since I have a tendency to take my self too seriously.)😄 Life is more manageable for me presently but I’m excited to see/hear what this next chapter of the show has to offer. Here’s to the consummate host, John Moe! Thanks for being so caring and considerate with a topic that is quite sensitive for many of us. Keep up the good work! 👍
I have listened to all of these episodes over and over and love them more every time. My only critique is that I wish it was still running. This is such an important topic, and such an ingenious way of presenting it
I recommend starting with the DMC episode. This podcast has something for everyone. Hilarious, insightful, and hopeful.
I searched for a podcast on depression when my husband hit a scary low in depression. Not only do I feel more optimistic about my spouse and marriage, but I am a better partner as I have learned endless understanding and compassion for people with depression. Please don’t ever stop making episodes!!
