Dr. Chutkan,
As a parent of a 23 year old son with autism, I was moved by this podcast! I identified with many of the topics that you and your colleague discussed. The perspectives on the impact of diet and the passage of time on improving symptoms offer hope. In a world with so much misinformation on this topic, it is invaluable to learn from medical professionals who compassionately discuss the gut connection with Autism and share realistic expectations regarding symptom relief from GI and other issues. This podcast is illuminating and a beautiful form of advocacy for children with ASD and their parents.
Thank you,
Lesley

What an amazing episode and podcast for all of us. Seldom do you find a mix of kindness and medical knowledge in one source. This episode is a perfect example of how Dr. Chutkin brings new information about our bodies and specifically our gut microbiome. Yet she never loses sight that practicing medicine is an art that is done with caring attention. Thank you for doing these podcasts. The variety and relevance of each show has been a source to share with others.

I always enjoy listening to Dr.Chutkan’s Gutbliss podcast episodes. She offers a wealth of information on the gut microbiome. I appreciate how she gives helpful actionable advice. It’s such an evolving area of medicine and Dr. Chutkan is great at communicating up to date information. I also highly recommend her book the Anti-viral gut. It’s crazy how little things in our life can have either a negative or positive impact on the gut microbiome. I’m so glad I’ve been managing my reflux due to a hiatal hernia with lifestyle modifications rather than a PPI.

I needed this podcast after suffering for so many years. Excellent content. I even convinced my primary care doctor to listen. He loves the show too.

While your recommendations are great for general health, they are way off the mark for IBS sufferers. Just listening to you describe a bowl of oats with pumpkin seeds, walnuts and berries gave me a stomach ache. Haven’t you heard of low FODMAP stacking? I have been working with a Dietician for a month now to get to gut bliss. It is a slow process of carefully adding in foods and eating a lot of greens is NOT the answer. For those with Crohn’s Disease, there are medicines and infusions. IBS sufferers don’t have that and have to work very diligently to get back to eating normal, healthy whole foods. I really wish you would speak to that in your podcast. Low FODMAP is very dependent on quantities of a particular food.
