Chris Hedges is a national—or should I say global— treasure. An incisive leftist voice molded in the fires of years spent as a war correspondent, and fortified with deep (and broad) literary knowledge of philosophy, history, and religion.
I am very grateful for the return of the Chris Hedges Show, particularly on this podcast platform. For anyone not familiar, I recommend checking out previous episodes which appeared on YouTube. They are a comprehensive and invaluable resource.

Chris Hedges simply has NO rival amongst public intellectuals/authors/journalists/thinkers/educators/moral guides today in the United States of America. Trained at Harvard Divinity School as a Presbyterian (USA) minister, Hedges felt called to journalism early and became a famous, Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times war correspondent (El Salvador, the former Yugoslavia, and for several years, the Arabic-speaking Jerusalem bureau chief). Although Hedges comes from the Liberal part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), he is not neatly defined, so brilliant is his analyses of economic, social, and political theory. Although not a Marxist, he gives credit where credit is due, and agrees with many aspects of Marx’s critique of capitalism and its weaknesses. While vehemently anti-war, he is not a pacifist. The author of scores of New York Times best-sellers such as “War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning” and “America: The Farewell Tour”, he is in his element now as an independent journalist, podcaster, and interview show host. How much better we would be if all of us had even a fraction of Chris’s strong moral fiber, limpid intelligence, courage, and eloquence. He is a great writer. He is a great man.

For those whose hearts are broken for the past year, Chris Hedges is one of a handful outstanding beings who diligently create a safe space to record, reflect and reach out. I wish this wasn’t a rare thing during such a devastating time, but I’m grateful of its existence.

Chris Hedges is one of our most important voices during this critical junction in history. His clear moral vision is reflected in his prolific writing, and this podcast is a great accompaniment to his work. His conversations with guests are compelling, often serious discussions on a wide range of topics, worthy of a spot on PBS. Sadly, they would never allow him on the air to expose inconvenient truths, but at least we have this podcast.
