I appreciate this podcast series that looks at the historical error and dishonesty of popular Christian nationalist David Barton. He’s a fake historian. Yet he has a large Christian Right following, and organizations that include Focus on the Family and Family Research Council have been knowingly complicit in the spreading of Barton’s Christian nationalist false beliefs. This is another example of how the Christian Right has been corrupted in order to promote far-right ideology and seek control through political power. I was strongly involved in the (white) conservative American evangelical subculture, ie Christian Right, for decades. I left them to better follow Christ as I experienced leadership control and even corruption as well as seeing the Christian Right alignment with political evil. I continue to grieve and feel disgusted that this subculture has betrayed Christ and the Gospel for a misguided and destructive political agenda that also encourages nationalism and white supremacy. This podcast series is important because it exposes darkness for the sake of pursuing truth and goodness.

This podcast continues to expose the problematic core of Christian nationalism with clarity and the facts. It’s both fascinating and deeply troubling. All Christians should be aware of this movement and the dangers it poses to real Christianity.

I grew up in the 1980s when David Barton was a traveling evangelist and pseudo Bible historian. He would lay out on many tables at my baptist church an impressive number of ancient bibles and make Christian nationalist claims and say universities didn’t want us to know our history. He was and is a snake oil salesman. I had no idea so many people would believe him but my family does to this day and so it hits close to home. I don’t think there is a way to have a conversation with them but at least this podcast is therapeutic and informative for me.
