In the latest episode, a press event about the ongoing protests in Portland, the Chief and other police officers point fingers at everyone but themselves. This episode is coming out while the whole country is reckoning with its living history of police violence, a history that is very much Portland’s, but here the police are portraying themselves as victims of the citizens, the citizens police have sworn to serve and protect. Is it ok for police to disparage their citizenry and discredit people without any evidence? Is it ok for people in such high positions of power to sidestep their responsibilities to serve the people?
