Imagine if Sufjan Stevens created a podcast about the intricate web of 6th-century Byzantine society. That's how I describe this captivating podcast from the creative mind of host and producer Christine Laskowski. With her amazing songs, clever sonic flourishes, and deeply researched tales, she delves into one of history's greatest love stories. I learned a lot listening to this show, including how the wealthy competed with political power for influence in Constantinople, how children were taught about slavery in the 6th century, and the origins of the modern concept of "Goth" (there's even a catchy song about it in one episode that will stick in your head all day!). This podcast is one of my favorite discoveries of 2024, and I find myself eagerly hoping for new episodes all the time. A new podcasting star is born!

Christine’s passion for the topic is evident in this nicely produced story. The love story between T and J is the thread but I learned so much about an era of history that has always been difficult for me to connect with. Highly recommend!

This podcast has some of the best storytelling that I’ve heard. And the whimsical musical interludes have only added to my enjoyment. I’ve learned much more about Byzantium than I ever expected, and I can’t wait for another episode.

Meticulous research, completely original approach — this podcast is my Byzantine Bae now — hilarious bc I didn’t even know I was into this kinda thing. Reminds me of getting sucked into GOT & not being a fantasy fan. It’s stellar storytelling— seriously needs to be a TV series. The only complaint I have is that now I want all my history dished up like this deliciousness 😋🤓#addicted
