I can’t begin to thank Carolyn and Brandon enough for doing this complicated series about the 1st serial killer of our hometown who most people in our town never heard of.
Finally people will now know all the murders and rapes and tortures he committed without facing justice, not just the two he’s been convicted of.
I just in the last year or two found out about witnesses out in Dole Valley during the winter of 1971 after more than 52 years.
Every day I say a prayer that my sister’s remains will be found, and Diane Gilchrist’s remains too.
Carolyn has done immense work above and beyond to tell this complicated story of real people still needing justice and the truth.
Thank you for giving my beautiful big sister Jamie Grissim her voice back, a girl who was just 3 weeks past her 16th birthday.
We all pray that she and Diane will be found, and that Carol Valenzuela receives justice, and Gloria too.
Please share this because the truth is out there. Justice is in view too .

This is only the second or third time I’ve felt compelled to write a response to a podcast in over a decade of pretty heavy podcast consumption. I was surprisingly shocked and saddened by the producer’s strong judgement of the reaction of a young man (a 19 yo in the 1970’s) who allegedly encountered a girl in the woods, bloody and tied to a tree. I don’t think it’s at all fair to label him “a coward” for his decision to run home for help, instead of approaching the woman in the moment. In my judgement, it’s cruel to treat him this way- without any acknowledgment of his experience. It’s not like he found a girl alone who had slipped and bumped her head on a rock. In this situation, someone else, a very dangerous person, was obviously involved. I don’t think the witness should feel any “guilt” at all- that lies with the horrible person who took the girl. Regrets are understandable. I hope the witness hasn’t been as hard on himself and the producer. I believe he deserves compassion- it must have been a terrible and terrifying experience.
I appreciate the host pushing back a bit and offering a different perspective.
If the team finds this now much older man, I hope he’ll be treated with kindness, compassion and appreciation should he choose to give an interview.

I don’t know how I happened to find this podcast, but I can’t stop talking about it. It is so well done and being told with such integrity I can’t wait for each episode to unfold. I didn’t even know I liked this type of podcast until it got me and now I’m totally hooked. More episodes please!

The VO and writing makes this hard to listen to. VO is slow and melodramatic and poorly edited- you can hear where there are pick ups when audio quality changes mid-sentence. Could have also benefited from stronger narrative writing or an audio story editor. There are big leaps in plot rather than stepping through the action which makes the story hard to follow. Didn’t make it past episode 1.

I truly thought that this was an AI narration. She had great enunciation, but it felt so impersonal, cold, and flat out wrong. I couldn’t get past the first 15 minutes. Very disappointed, given that it was recommended by Cold, a masterclass in narration.
