Maybe I’m being cynical, I made it maybe a quarter of the way through the first episode.
Everyone’s journey with sobriety is completely different as well as backgrounds and family history. Hearing about owning dentist practices and detoxing in Mexico for a yoga retreat is almost laughable.
Sorry if that’s insensitive but the privilege I’m hearing from the beginning is something most of us will and do not identify with.
Addiction and alcoholism aren’t about comparing scars and that’s not what I’m trying to get at. I don’t think myself and many other people who are just like me will find this podcast helpful or relatable.
Addiction is viewed in different scopes based on where you stand economically and socially. Society will deem you either a junkie or a drunk. Or someone who is sick, needs help and hopes you get well based off your tax bracket.
