Okay, I'm obsessed with this podcast. I started listening because the premise sounded interesting- a couple investigating whether to get married by talking to all kinds of people about love and relationships. But what hooked me is how real it is.
The Deb episode blew my mind. She talks about how unmarried partners can technically be denied access to visit you in the emergency room – which sounds terrifying – but then she drops this bomb: you can just lie and say you're married, and they'll let you in. No one checks! It's this perfect example of how marriage gives you legal rights that... apparently don't actually matter if you're willing to bend the truth a little? And the story she tells is insane.
The PF and Esme episode hit me differently. Esme is growing up with parents who never got married, and she is…turning out fine. Her life wasn't harder, her family wasn't less stable. Hearing her talk about it so matter-of-factly really challenged the idea that marriage is necessary for a healthy family. And watching Maxson and Emily work through what that means for their own potential future with kids, you can hear them having genuine revelations in real time.
What I love most is that this isn't a show where the hosts have it all figured out. They're genuinely investigating, genuinely curious, genuinely unsure. And that vulnerability is what makes it so compelling.
If you've ever questioned whether marriage is really necessary, or just wondered what it actually means beyond the ceremony, this is your new favorite podcast. Excited for the last episode!!!!!!

As someone who is engaged and planning a wedding, this podcast brought up interesting points for us to consider. Although we still want to get married and are excited about it, I appreciate Emily and Maxson debunking the marriage system and challenging young couples to consider all their options rather than defaulting to patriarchal conditioning.

I’m so excited about this podcast. I’m also questioning marriage and my boyfriend and I are trying to figure out what to do. I grew up around a lot of divorce and never really believed “till death do us part.” It’s cool to see a couple asking the questions that I have too and I’m excited to see where it goes.
