This is an outstanding work, capturing one of the many stories of lives lost too soon… of love and pain and conflict and joy and, mostly, of connection. It’s a story of how one man lived and impacted those around him in ways he couldn’t have imagined. And how hearing of his life impacts us, the listener. I smile knowing that Daryl lives on in those of us who heard his story.

The LGBTQ+ community lost so many of our forebears, stories and memories lost to time. Dane Stewart has done a beautiful job resurrecting one of those stories. It is worth your time.

I adored this podcast from beginning to end. It was so beautifully and thoughtfully created and executed. What an incredible tribute to a phenomenally complex and imaginative man. I feel like I got to know Daryl so thoroughly — I listened to the whole podcast twice. Absolutely recommend this podcast to anyone and everyone. The podcast also helped me process my own grief for those I’ve lost

Any words that I could use to describe this podcast will fall short.

I hate to describe one podcast in light of another. I hope Dane Stewart understands that I’m not trying to diminish his creative work by drawing this comparison). But I make the comparison because heard about Resurrection last week while listening to another podcast: the ad described it as similar to S-town (I’ve been looking for a podcast that I would like as much as S-town since I listened to it, and everything has fallen short). But Resurrection lives up to the comparison (and I suspect there are a lot of people out there like me who will listen to this podcast based on the comparison. You’re welcome, future fans of Resurrection).

Of course, it is worth listening to this podcast in and of itself. The story is so beautifully recounted, we get these intimate glimpses into other people in other times but also into ourselves. In the recounting, Darrell and Dane and Janet slowly bring to light parts of yourself that you might not have known existed. And then just when you think the podcast has given you everything it should, the penultimate episode invites you into the fictional world of one of Darrell’s plays about Vietnam. And the final monologue in episode 7 is life changing. I’ll leave it at that.
