This is a pod that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but seriously does an outstanding job of bringing together the world of film & history. It’s not boring or always holding filmmakers to task for not being historically accurate, but instead helps us think about how history informs our movie making and how our movie making informs are historical memory. Guests are scholars who know their stuff, but are normal people who make their work accessible. Jason is a great host, who asks thoughtful questions & isn’t ashamed to be himself & let his guests take the spotlight on the pod.

Life goal: have Jason Herbert and everyone he knows over for BBQ for a marathon history jam. I’m so glad I started listening to this pod. Using my drive time to school being inspired by stories from history I don’t know plus ways to engage my students with connections to pop culture is such a win!

I love this show, and listen every week. So much fun to view these movies in a historical context that I wouldn’t normally think to consider.

This is probably the best movie discussion podcast out there right now. It doesn’t look at things strictly from an academic perspective or historian perspective. It’s basically a bunch of people who like a certain kind of movie hanging out in chitchatting and the conversation can go in any direction. The host is a really entertaining individual.

I have no problem with the new episodes but it’s kind of a bait and switch. It’s no longer what I signed on for so I am parting ways.
