Mark and his team have been a breath of fresh air as they have humbly and thoughtfully dissected world events through the lens of scripture. All of their analysis is anchored in how this can inform our prayers and postures for those living as citizens of the Kingdom of heaven. As one living in America, I’m grateful for thoughtful, calm, steady voices that have a greater vision beyond the reactionary, lazy, binary left-right paradigms that engulf so much of American commentary right now.

I’m an avid podcast listener and this one is my favorite. Right mix of insight with deft cultural analysis and covering of global trends, all wrapped in wise counsel for church leaders. I appreciate that Sayers is sober and honest without being cynical which is too common with Christian podcasts. I don’t feel negative after listening to Rebuilders, I genuinely feel encouraged and built up.

I love the systems and historical analysis of this podcast. It allows us to fit the current news in broader trends. Which helps provide comfort in this crazy time.

I have long appreciated Mark’s ability to summarize current news affairs into broader critiques of the secular culture wars and the shifting world order. But as someone who is from the Global South, the incredible whiteness of this worldview in recent episodes, particularly referencing the Middle East, has been incredibly disappointing. There is no acknowledgement of the continual meddling of the western powers in the Middle East that has led to current-day destabilization — the words “US imperialism” or “colonialism” are never uttered. The statelessness and displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank is never referenced, nor is Israel’s status as an apartheid state, verified by many humanitarian — even religious — organizations. It is hard to see this as anything other than racism, the continuous dehumanization of those dirty brown “terrorist” Others, while their actions to resist are labelled “barbaric.” You all have lost your way and forgotten Christ in the Rubble, the nativity scene last year from the church at Bethlehem. I will not be seeking your wisdom from hereon.
