One of the most interesting and educational shows I’ve listened to. From the information he delivers to the comfort in his voice, this podcast is an all around safe space with the most incredible host and necessary information about the human brain. I continue to learn with every episode. Thank you Dr. Nigro!

This is a great podcast to have on hand for quick listening. I enjoy having topics that educates me while I’m doing whatever it is I’m doing. Not only that, but today’s podcast has impacted me in a very positive and inspiring way. Thank you Dr. Nigro and Julie. Having a “safe place” to influence my mind and keep me grounded while I’m not seeing a therapist is incredible. Thank you thank you thank you for doing the work you do. I appreciate you. I’m going to go make dinner now, because I get to! I shall be reflecting about how lucky I’m feeling to have the ability to cook a meal for my family. Definitely a podcast everyone should explore. An easy decision!

I wish I could rate this much higher because the content itself seems great. However, the near constant background noise (shuffling papers, hitting the mic, moving things around, etc.) is so distracting and irritating. Especially for an educational psychology podcast.

Saying “There IS NO unconscious” is such a hot take in our field, and lay individuals need to know that the majority of well trained psychologists do not agree with this statement. Even CBT clinicians with advanced training will not agree with this. That’s like saying “a repetition compulsion is an entirely volitional process”; it suggests the survivor of physical abuse in one relationship, and then finding themselves in 6 subsequent relationships with abusers is entirely a volitional and conscious occurrence. Those choices are 100% “on them”despite the stupidity of those decisions. To convey this as a clinician is invalidating at best and harmful at worst. I could go on but I’ll stop here with the issues I have with some of the content.

However, I admire Nigro’s energy and commitment to this pod. He clearly cares about putting out content as a service to his community. Further, he has a good understanding of psychopathy, at least from a clinical criteria standpoint, despite his apparent over-importance of these psychiatric labels (which tells in nothing about our personal stories) and the over reliance of, borderline fantastical thinking about, the absolute necessity of obtaining a neuropsychological evaluation. If a clinician can’t determine a diagnosis of a common syndrome (major depression, social anxiety etc) with a cost effective clinical interview, but must rely on test findings that cost literally 1000s and 1000s of dollars, then the clinician might consider another profession.
