I’m a single mom who works outside the home, and this podcast has genuinely been a godsend for helping me parent my kids. Our lives have gotten easier, calmer, and richer because of the ideas I’ve learned here. I’m really grateful for the perspective Jamie brings and the way the show encourages thoughtful parenting.
That said, the Millennial Moms episode felt very different from the rest of the podcast for me. The guest leaned heavily into a very traditional “tradwife” perspective — encouraging women to have children very young, suggesting women shouldn’t pursue college or careers, and framing motherhood as the primary (or only) source of fulfillment for women. There was even a moment suggesting we shouldn’t tell little girls they can grow up to be anything because if they become astronauts, how will they care for children if they are in space? (Apparently not an issue for fathers to be away from their children).
For listeners coming from different life experiences, that messaging can feel pretty limiting. I personally came from the opposite situation — I was once a stay-at-home mom and ended up in a relationship that involved emotional, verbal, and financial abuse. Because of that, hearing such narrow prescriptions for women’s lives was difficult.
To Jamie’s credit, she didn’t seem nearly as judgmental as the guest, and that’s one of the reasons I normally love the podcast so much. I also often listen with my kids nearby so we can talk about the ideas together afterward. This was the first episode where I felt like I had to turn it off so my daughters wouldn’t absorb some of those messages without context.
I still wholeheartedly recommend the podcast — the vast majority of episodes are thoughtful, practical, and incredibly helpful. I’d just suggest that new listeners skip this particular one and start with the many other excellent episodes.

This is hands down the most informative, no-nonsense, relatable parenting podcast out there. Jamie tells it like it is and I’m here for it. I hope she keeps making content for years to come.

I really, really love Jamie’s blend of old school and new school parenting advice. There is SO MUCH micromanaging and fear mongering (directed TOWARDS kids) in today’s parenting. I can’t go to a playground without hearing parenting constantly admonishing their kids to “be careful” and “watch your step!” Jamie blows the overprotective coddling out of the water while still treating kids like people. I wish I could make every millennial parent listen to this show.

I have been listening to Jamie for almost 12 years. She helped me potty train all 4 of my kids and has shaped my parenting in so many ways. Listen to her! You won’t regret it!
