Holy sheeeeyit! I’ve been trying to find new black creators in the podcast space and I picked an episode at random. As soon as I heard you mention “Awareness” by Anthony de Mello, a book that’s long been on my list of all time favorites, I immediately subbed and cozied in, knowing I would be here for a while. Looking forward to becoming a long time listener! Thank you for this.

I’ve been a listener for over a decade now. Way before Myleik was a mom or in a long-term relationship and although I am a little older than her & I was married with a kid, I still found her perspective refreshing. But today, I listened to her trash talk Megan Markle & call her a FAILURE and I need more context because from my POV, MM launched a TV show that was a HIT & has been renewed for another season and a product-based biz that SOLD out in minutes. She married the world’s most eligible bachelor, had a very successful career as an actress, has a full, beautiful, scandal-free life and is adored by those who matter to her. Please elaborate on what she’s FAILING at. Because most people would consider her more successful than Myleik, if this was a success competition, which it should not be. Furthermore, how is she 10 years behind? When is it NOT in fashion to have a cooking show? If anything it’s right on schedule as she’s combining it with podcast-style interviews of interesting people who happen to be her besties.
Lastly, no one expects MM to be “cool.” I didn’t even know that’s an aspiration 40-somethings still have. This isn’t high school. She’s a grown woman doing grown woman things. And we need more examples of that to pit against the Sexxy Reds of the world becoming the Gold Standard of Black womanhood. MM’s show and business are ON BRAND. But your mean sentiment and bashing of a beautiful, successful Black woman is not because I thought you championed black women. Your friend and her article will be read by her grandkids one day as they wonder what their grandma, the journalist, was writing about while Trump was busy destroying democracy. It’s not a good look.
