The data available for the DC mansion case is very difficult to sift through, but this podcast really cleared up a few bits that made me feel uneasy. I did not want a perpetrator like this to get away with this sort of tragedy.
I had doubts the convict acted alone. The podcast painted the necessary picture of what kind of characters ran with this guy. Everything made sense. The broadcasters, as you will see, also struggled with some of the facts. They are clearly of two different minds (something I view as essential to any effective broadcast duo,) and they both go down separate paths to figuring things out. What's important is that two reasonable people ended up in the same place.
I feel very confident that the correct verdict was reached. It is good to know that a person that could commit a crime as heinous as this one is not getting away with it.
Excellent reporting, and I thought the analysis during the final episode on the DC homicides was top notch. Not too much and not too little. This is a great podcast. I highly recommend it for the detail-oriented that cannot absorb information in minute sound bites. I need all of the info. This sort of reporting helps restore faith in our institutions. This is media at its' best. You can find much of this info in court documents as well.

Good story, but the way the woman narrating the story keeps saying "right" "I know, right?" to the subjects she's interviewing is 1) annoying as heck and 2) not how someone conducts a news interview. She's effectively endorsing the viewpoint of her subject. It's unprofessional and takes away from the overall impression of the podcast.
PS. I'm still laughing at the "he couldn't have done it because he didn't even like pizza" defense.

Either hire a sound editor or fire the one who worked on this podcast. As others have said, the music is too loud and distracting from the person speaking. Interesting case ruined by bad sound editing

Overall, I’ve enjoyed the 3 stories in this series, but have a few critiques:
Into the Woods - There are too many unnecessary descriptions of what people look like, which are annoying and not germane to the story.
The sound quality of a number of the phone interviews is TERRIBLE, with a couple of them bordering on unintelligible. This really impacts listeners’ abilities to get all the pertinent information and formulate their own theories as to what may have happened.
I echo the complaints expressed with regards to the background music, and some of the sound effects. They are distracting and need to stop.
THE MANSION MURDERS: cut out the petty gossip and judgmental comments about the family and knock off the casual tone during the interviews. This is unprofessional and takes away from the credibility of your reporting.
Also, the reporters need to be consistent with pronunciation of the names of key players in this story, i.e. Went vs. Wint, DAR•el vs. dur•ELLE or SAH•vas vs. sa•VASS. It can’t be that hard.

The Mansion Murders episodes lacked analysis and is super gossipy. Honestly, if you want real Analysis on that particular story listen to 22 hours by WTO P. It’s much better with digging deep on the facts versus this one. It seems like they highlight a bunch of suspects without really providing enough analysis and facts around why they are implying that we should be looking at other people as suspect in these murders. It’s almost as if they’re treating them like characters versus real people. At the end of the day these are real people and I enjoy true crime podcasts and documentaries not for necessarily the salaciousness or gossip but for real analysis that leads into what motivates people. This one truly lacks all of that.

The reporters of this podcast are predatory at the very least. They so clearly are just out to write a story. They’re so blatantly casting suspicion on the family just because they would not communicate with the press. At some point they talk about how the family’s refusal to comment at the funeral was “weird” like EXCUSE ME? Their loved ones were brutally murdered and their home set a blaze of course they don’t want to answer your offensively personal questions at the time. This podcast is everything that is wrong with the press.
