Honestly, I love this podcast. Doug has a great balance between reading you the stories and pausing to give you context of the times and how that could have shaped the stories that were being told. I recommend this to all of my literature or history nerds!! This has been one of my favorite podcasts for years.

A genuinely great listen to a smart guy talk in a very accessible way about all the literature you’ve ever heard of but never really read deeply. If you want to nerd out with some texts, this is where to come.

Can’t get better than this. Extremely learned and great teacher/podcaster. Grateful for the existence of this podcaster and the devotion of Metzger to the project. He makes speaking sound like writing and writing like speaking, and so keeps us both engaged and, when he is done, a little more learned.

Have been listening to L&H for years and can’t recommend the show enough for anyone interested in works of classical literature and the cultural history in which they were created. Doug makes the content both fun and easy to digest in a way only great professors can accomplish - so grateful for the work he’s doing!
