This podcast is a good time. Dr. Shapiro shares his wide breadth of knowledge spanning halakha, Jewish thought, history, rabbinic literature in a fun and exciting way. Every podcast starts off with what is colloquially known in the yeshivas as “pre-shiur hock”—talking about random topics he was emailed about or follow up from previous lectures. Then Dr. Shapiro hits you with a torpedo of history, stories, personal anecdotes, and Torah. At once fun and engaging, and also substantive and enlightening.
This podcast presents real history about the circumstances, personalities and outcomes within the Ashkenazic rabbinic leadership in recent centuries. Unlike some sources that present a sanitized and whitewashed view, or other sources largely focused on negatives, Professor Shapiro provides an unfiltered view of sectarian leaders managing through the political, social, and religious challenges that impacted a sizeable and influential segment of the global Jewish community
