Omg, just listened to the oct 11 episode and laughed out loud a bunch of times. I did a big chunk of the LP in September and saw Chickenfat in multiple trail registers, wondered how he did! Glad he made it! Been really enjoying this podcast as I’ve fallen in love with the Catskills over the past year.
Your podcast about the extremely difficult rescue on Blackhead Mountain, and the rangers’ willingness to discuss the details, in order to educate hikers, was sobering and very helpful. The basics of being prepared, checking the weather, and, above all, being willing to turn back, if there are concerns, are something we all need to be reminded of.
I stumbled across this podcast when it popped up in some "suggested viewing", and I'm so glad I did! It's a generous introduction to hiking in the Catskills, with info on where the jewels are as well as where the risks are. The host and his friends are fluent in the region, seem like fun-plus-nice types, and are not too outdoor-bro-ish. I used to hike a lot in the Catskills with a group out of NYC, and am just returning to exploring the area as a solo and more experienced outdoors-person. So the insights here are right on time for me; I'd been listening to it while running and finally realized that I need to be able to take some notes from the episodes. If you want to get an overview of how to get the most out of hiking the Cats, this seems like a great resource.
Has a variety of content related to the Catskills. I especially enjoy the content about hiking.
This podcast presents topics I am very interested in as a local so I subscribed, but whenever it starts playing in car I have to immediately switch to something else because the intro music is so disruptive. I suspect you are losing other potential local listeners for this reason. I suggest dropping the music and letting the content of your podcast be the star. My guess is your listeners will increase if you do this.
