Listening to Poppins grappling episode again! I forgot how fabulous her story is about John Kasich and Alaska airlines. Such a funny and enraging critique. HWYW is top 5 for many reasons, specifically I appreciate that Julie speaks clearly, hardly ever says “um”, best sound quality, and the content is smart, informative, hilarious, and endearing. Love Julie, feels like hanging out with a best friend.

I was already a Julie Klausner fan when HWYW rebooted last year, so I’m biased. I think it’s rare for hosts to 1) consistently bring on guests who have something interesting to say 2) put in the prep work necessary to ask thought provoking questions that show deep respect for those guests and 3) are smart and funny enough to extemporize in a way that’s compelling. Come for: theatre, cult classics, junk food, lower-case fantasia, WNBA fandom, Jewish stuff, gay stuff, jokes jokes jokes. Stay for: a parasocial friendship with someone who is actively cheering you up and distracting you from terrifying current events by telling you things that are amusing, educational, and funny.
So if you want something that’s actually special in the ways described above, listen to How Was Your Week.

LOVE Julie. She is a pioneer of the medium, and is one of the funniest and most thoughtful voices out here. I literally squeal every time a new episode drops.

Did not know how much I was jonesing for this podcast until I listened to its triumphant return. From last week’s discussion on Julie is not going to mansplain references (look them up, Gen Z) and this week’s “It’s called consent...mental consent.” I’m back in my happy place. Thank you, Julie.
