Like many, I’ve been following Akilah’s career since 2020 when she was a host on What A Day. There is quite literally no one I would rather have in my ears dissecting the biggest issues of our time. Akilah is a brilliant writer, reporter, and comedian. She is passionate, empathetic, kind—AND she doesn’t pull her punches. There is a desperate need for storytellers of her caliber at this moment in history, and she has risen to the occasion beautifully with How Is This Better. It’s clearly a passion project for her and she’s absolutely killing it. I look forward to new episodes each week because of her witty takes, knowledgeable guests, and top-tier reporting, but also because of the hopeful note she always ends on, even when it’s difficult. Major props to Akilah and her team for this much-needed show. Keep going 💜

Awesome content, to the point, and manages to give informed content in current events without leaving the listener hopeless.

The writing, flow, and storytelling is so good. Each episode will teach you something and make you a little more informed. And isn’t that a good thing?!

I enjoyed listening to Hughes when she hosted What A Day and How Is This Better is even better. How? Because Hughes has great instincts and insights and is entertaining to listen to.
