HOAX: The Sherri Papini Story - Podcast Rankings and reviews

I was a huge Gone Girl fan so when I found out about this podcast I was floored that there was a true crime version of the story and immediately downloaded. Let me just say: did not disappoint. The story is loaded with so many insane twists and turns that you can’t believe it’s actually all real, and the host keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Can’t wait for more podcasts from this team! More true crime please!!

Wow, what a story and Abby is an amazing storyteller! I’m lucky I started listening when 4 episodes were out already because I went through them all immediately! It reminds me of Serial.

I’m a true crime podcast fanatic and this was such a hidden gem! Great storytelling, voice and personality! I hope she covers more stories! PLEASE 🙏

This podcast could have been one episode. There were several tangents that were very unnecessary. Example— an explanation of what a brand is ( who doesn’t know what a brand is?!?!?) leading to an explanation of cult NXIM. A tie in about genealogical DNA leading to A long explanation of the golden state killer case. Somehow early 2000s boy bands were brought up ???? That’s just a FEW examples. Then two commercials cut the real info down even more. What was explained related to the case was interesting if you hit the fast foreword button to search for it.

There were so many details glossed over and unnecessary tangents the author/producer drifts off into. In some ways, it seemed like lazy reporting. Dig deeper and this is a compelling 8-10 part series.
Please stop with the “trigger warnings” and tell a story to your entire audience, not someone born in the last 25 years (Harry Potter and boy band references? References to The OC? The insufferable speculation on what Sherri might have been listening to when allegedly abducted?) Glossing over the mystery donor and the “expert” negotiator was frustrating. Dig deeper. We’d want to know more on who they we’re more than bit players.
Sherri Pipinni’s friends sound like clueless dolts to rave about her mothering skills when the woman had more dark skeletons in her closet than a mortician (many of which they HAD to be aware of).
This could have been such a more compelling podcast, rich with in-depth info. Instead we got tangents, obscure references, Gen-something references and tangential speculation about off topic things.
I wanted more and I got a stripped down, lazy story.

This whole story never made much sense to me. There were always holes, bad vibes, questions about both the husband & boyfriend, etc. I just watched the HBO doc she did, and it filled in a lot IMO. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle & highly recommend watching the HBO doc which is how I found out about this podcast.
