History 102 with WhatifAltHist's Rudyard Lynch and Austin Padgett - Podcast Rankings and reviews

I have learned more about the world and its rich history just listening to Rudyard’s shows and videos on youtube. I have two college degrees and I have even taught languages at the university level and I can assure you that you will learn more just by listening to Rudyard’s podcasts about history and civilizations than you will in most colleges and universities. It’s not that academics are unfamiliar with this material; rather, the current academic culture doesn’t allow people to talk about these subjects in the same open and honest way that Rudyard does. He offers us very deep and penetrating insights about our world, why it is the way it is, and where we might be going.

I am extremely puzzled by the bad reviews here cuz this is really next level. It's not just history but analysis and they go way deeper than most podcasts. Rly appreciate the mild philosophical aspect or occasional althist esque musings. Rudyard is one of the most well read people I've ever encountered. It's truly a joy not to mention insanely informative.

I honestly think the bad reviews seem slightly suspect, like someone with a grudge. I send this show to so many people, might be my favourite podcast.

5 Stars. Just discovered these guys. I'm making my way through their entire library. Love to hear their take on the question of why some societies fail and others thrive. I've heard mention of both Jared Diamond's Guns Germs and Steel and the Why Nations Fail book on different episodes. It would be great to hear the material picked apart more... if it's already been addressed in a prior episode I'll find it. like I said I'm taking it all in. Thanks

Great podcast! Refreshing to hear historical analysis that is just that without the rose colored lens of modern history books and woke framing. Keep it going!

Big fan of Econ 102 and was excited to see what I could learn here. Rudyard’s a compelling narrator and I enjoyed his historical discussion of the slave trade. And then he said that black people don’t care about slavery and also who cares because they’re only 12% of the population. He’s free to feel the latter but was the former true? Nope, quick google search and recent Pew survey shows 85% say the legacy of slavery affects the position of Black people in the U.S. today. He also stated as fact that housing costs have increased 80% since Covid, it’s true they rose significantly but 80%? Come on, another huge and easily disproven lie. And of course he stated as fact the tired, age-old trope that white men are no longer getting hired. There was more but I have limited space and patience. Knowing Rudyard’s propensity to spew straight-up alt-right lies made me question everything else he said about an interesting historical topic. Was anything he said about the slave trade true? That’s the problem with being a blatantly dishonest partisan hack, it might get you clicks but you lose any credibility and risk being taken seriously. Also makes me question the judgement of Turpentine and Erik in particular, who gives zero pushback. It’s a bad look, guys!
