I do love how Maggie thoughtfully uses her own experience of personal loss and unanswered questions as a springboard to hear and help others through the process. So much more emotionally engaged than your run-of-the-mill host!

I found the storyline interesting, but waiting a week for a 20 minute episode after ads made listening a chore. I pay for the iheart subscription, so it was even more frustrating getting such little content each listen. Longer, but fewer, episodes would have made it more palatable.

I’ve heard this “case” a couple of times. BUT…this podcast artfully tells the story of such a tragic event and the people’s lives that were changed. The host’s soothing voice & compassionate tone kept me calm while being OUTRAGED at the facts and injustices. My mother too has lupus, I’ve watched first hand the destruction
& pain it causes on its own. Sending perseverance & HOPE.

Don’t pay attention to negative reviews. I was familiar with this story from other true crime outlets and binged this series in a night due to how artfully the story was told. Sharing the narrator’s personal tragedy highlights the connection she felt to the daughter. Definitely a great listen and praying for Sandy.

It’s an intriguing story, but the narrator is terrible. So performative and over the top with her cadence and vocal choices that it’s quite off-putting. She also hasn’t bothered to correctly pronounce many words, which is distracting. Additionally, she inserts her own family story and it feels forced and unnecessary. That’s not the story we’re here for, and it’s really not that interesting. Could have used that time to add to the Melgar story. Finally, the ads are out of control. Way too many ads for what this is. Had to stop after 2 episodes, despite being interested in the story. It’s just too badly done.

I’m not usually one to complain about ads, I listen to lots of pods and I’m used to it, but the amount of ads on this one is insane, by far the most I’ve ever heard. I’m happy this story is being told because Sandy Melgar is so clearly innocent, the people who accused and convicted her should be embarrassed. Acting as if she’s some criminal mastermind, it’s beyond ridiculous. However, this podcast is not good. The narration is so insanely dramatic to the point of annoyance. For what? The story is awful enough, no need for such drama. Really disappointed in this one but I do hope it gets more much needed attention on this case. Free Sandy Melgar.
