Grumpy Old Geeks

by Jason DeFillippo & Brian Schulmeister with Dave Bittner

We dissect the tech news train wrecks of the week, calling out what went wrong and who’s to blame. Think of this podcast as if Kurt Cobain threw down with Tom from MySpace, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg in a back alley brawl. No mercy, no filter—if tech had a walk of shame, this would be it.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

If you feel like everyone in your company is killing your soul with pivots, roadmap rewrites, and “bold new directions” nobody wanted, chasing disruption while you’re just aiming for basic sanity, give this show a listen. You’ll be glad you did.

I’ve listened to this show for many years because Jason and Brian are so insightful, funny, and prescient. Recently I moved from government to teaching and this podcast has been a godsend for gaining a better understanding of what my students are likely up to with using AI and other tech. If you need a weekly primer on emerging tech and all the associated risks and pitfalls, I highly recommend.

Entertaining content with the right level of Snark from "experienced" geeks. They know how to deliver it because they lived it or at least RTFM -- yes these two are a rarity of these current times and actually are patrons of printed word media.

Schocka2024 · Feb 2026

This pod is a great way to keep up with tech news that flies under the radar, especially the stories pertaining to our billionaire overlords. I may be 10-15 years behind their nostalgia and references (I grew up playing point-and-click Zork games, not text-based), but their takes never fail to entertain. From social commentary to movies and books to new devices and apps, they cover it all. Who knew grumpiness could be so enjoyable!
