I came to this podcast hoping for an interesting take on the origins of the words we use. I left it looking for my slippers and wishing I owned a hammock. Tracing where our words came from is indeed an interesting prospect, but this particular presentation of said topic, delivered in an all-too-familiar British sing-song style, as if the presenter was reading an ingredient label, left me wanting less. Much less. In fact, I’m sure the attendant on my last domestic flight delivered the obligatory safety instructions in a more compelling way. This podcast is little more than the blandest of recitations of the roots and original languages of our vocabulary. I half expected the speaker to pause and start saying, ‘Bueller?’ I did give the podcast a full two stars, because I might actually find it useful the next time I’m suffering from a raging bout of insomnia. Go head; give it a listen if you wish. And immediately begin longing to be lulled by the dulcet tones of a flight attendant explaining how to buckle your belt.
