“Detective Perspective” is everything I look for in a true crime podcast — thoughtful, in-depth, and refreshingly respectful. Derrick brings a unique voice to the genre, combining his sharp analytical skills with genuine empathy for victims and their families. His background gives him an edge in understanding the finer details of each case, and his delivery is calm, focused, and engaging without ever being sensational.
What really sets this podcast apart is Derrick’s commitment to telling stories with integrity. Whether it’s a well-known case or one that hasn’t received nearly enough attention, he approaches each episode with professionalism and heart. You can tell he genuinely cares about the truth — and about the people affected by these crimes.
If you’re tired of overproduced, shallow crime content and want something smarter, more grounded, and more human — this is the show for you. Highly recommend!

Finally someone who CARES about the VICTIMS more than the fame. Derrick is probably my favorite true crime host. He cares about the victims and their stories and doesn’t sensationalize their pain for his gain. He’s interesting to listen to and his opinions are based on case facts — they actually have value, not just some “maybe this [thing]”, etc.

Derrick provides interesting, relevant coverage of cold cases and offers his theories of what may have happened or where the case might should go from here. Very happy to see a podcast bringing attention to unsolved crimes! I started listening to the him on Crime Weekly and now subscribe and listen to both his podcasts each week. Highly recommend!

Love the stories because they are lesser known and shed light on stories that get less attention and still need resolution. I want to be able to give this more stars but there are a couple of annoying points that make this difficult to listen to:
1. Overuse of the word “quote”. He literally quotes everything. He can easily say “quote” 5 times in less than a minute. Try it as a drinking game and see what happens…
2. Mansplaining at its finest.
By the time someone finds this podcast, you know they are a true crime fan. Explaining the most trivial things or elaborating on the obvious is annoying.
3. Weird breakaways for commercials. It randomly cuts to commercials at the strangest times.
