I started listening to this podcast at the recommendation of a friend. I first listened to the piece about Ukraine and was blown away. Amazing access, I felt like I was right there with the narrator, the storytelling made it really easy to listen to and it raised so many interesting and important questions. I’ve since listened to all the other episodes that have aired and am sharing it with other friends to listen too. Really great work, I love coming across a podcast that actually teaches me
Something new and is also fun to listen to!

I really appreciate how informative and timely this show is. I get a new episode covering tech while it’s topical, with content that anticipates my questions and concerns (plus a lot I don’t expect). Tysm Morgan, Chris, Chris, Maya, Brendan, and the others at KQED.

This podcast is thought provoking and makes me think about issues that I didn’t realize was an issue. The recent episode on what if the internet archive goes dark really made me go hmm. I’ve learned so much in each episode about the power of technology as a force for good but it also opens the tab and examines the unintended consequences of technology.

Just had this recommended by NPR “Up First” pod (“looking for your next great listen” ep).
You KNOW you found a good one when it’s hard to decide what ep to listen to first! I chose the Spotify ep cuz I have recently been discussing it with family and friends. Love being able to share pod eps with loved ones and have a lil book club type chat after. Great material here. Keep those tabs to a minimum, y’all ;)

Just listened to Shadow Scholars. It isn’t mentioned at all how cheating is wrong and how the people offering cheating services might also be wrong for their participation. It’s unethical to engage in cheating whether you sell or receive the cheated work. The providers live in other countries allowing them to not be criminally liable and we’re meant to leave feeling sympathetic for them that they cannot go to global north universities? If they’re so highly educated then they can create their own structures in their own countries to develop systems of accreditation or build their own businesses (which they’ve already done, but hopefully next time with ethics in mind). It just felt very incomplete to leave the episode without ever hearing any ethical considerations.
