I discovered this podcast a little over a year ago and quickly found myself entranced by the dynamic of this friend group. After wading through 2-3 other “shock-jock” radio style podcasts I’m most fortunate I found BGHT. If you want a taste of what this podcast delivers simply listen to their most recent episode (as of this review) where they discuss attending the 2024 Board Game Geek convention (part 1). From their interactions with the board game community, and (of course) playing board games, to their openness around expectations ahead of the convention, they showcase their authenticity, humor, experience, mastery, integrity, and openness.
Tim, Chris, and Adam: I can’t thank you enough for all that you do and are. And moreover to thank your families and loved ones for sharing your time with all of us.
Sorry guys it took me a year to finally throw my 5-stars onto the pile of well deserved reviews.
Lifelong listener,
[not THAT] Alexander Hamilton

I consume a lot of board game podcasts while I make the commute back and forth to work each day. Of all of the podcasts, Board Game Hot Takes is the best one. It’s so great to get three different perspectives on a variety of different board games. I love when Adam doesn’t like a game and describes it as “you take this thing and move it here, then get this other thing and score this thing”. I can relate, because there are so many games with weak themes where it just feels like you’re pushing cubes around. My gaming tastes are definitely closest to Chris for sure. And Tim does a great job rounding out the three with his insights. I appreciate all of their honesty about the games they play. It never feels like a paid advertisement and always feels authentic and real. Keep up the good work!

I love board games. I love listening to podcasts. This is the first board gaming podcast that really had/has me consistently going back and listening to earlier episodes after discovering it. I love that these folks are generally very positive and friendly about the games and with each other, even when they don’t like the game or are poking fun a bit. I love the passion and fun they bring to every single chat. I love the variety in the hosts tastes. This podcast just clicks really well with the vibe I want when listening. So while that may not be the case for everyone, I do think everyone into board games and podcasts should give this show an honest shot. I have even had the pleasure of playing a few games in digital form with at least one of the hosts! So as a somewhat newer listener and new Patreon supporter I hope you guys keep up the board game chats as long as you are enjoying it! I will continue to listen, support, and play games with y’all when the opportunities arise. Cheers!

I really enjoy this podcast. The board game topics are interesting and varied. The three hosts are knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. I really relate to them being an older board gamer, who came back to the hobby in midlife. I appreciate many of their life experiences and seem to have some similar taste in games. They have also, in a short time, taught me to be more thoughtful with what games I buy and /or keep in my collection and why some games appeal to me more than others. Keep up the great work!

I listened to a few episodes before dropping this podcast permanently. I listen to multiple board gaming podcasts and this one is very elitist and ignorant. The hosts definitely do not do their homework or have enough knowledge to talk about games, while expressing plenty of ignorant opinions about games they have never played. For example, one of the hosts talks about Davy Jones Locker and admits coop games are not his jam. The other two hosts, who did not play it or were not even aware this games exists, started comparing the game to Cthulhu Death May Die, which makes no sense as the games have nothing in common besides being coop games. They also start dumping and ranting about crowdfunding garbage and how you should avoid crowdfunded games. They state very matter of facts that the only reason why it’s rated highly is because people paid a decent amount of money for it. Well, they’re wrong. There are plenty of non-elitists who love unique coop games and also the game was not made as “crowdfunding garbage.” The hosts should stop being such board game snobs, talking down to those who enjoy games that they don’t. Or at least play a game before throwing in their terrible opinions. Bye terrible board game podcast. The podcast So Very Wrong About Games is much better and the hosts aren’t elitist ignoramuses.
