Our curated selection of reviews
This podcast has all the elements which normally result in a 5-star review, a gripping and well-structured story, strong research and writing, and colorful characters.
If only we heard more from those characters! The producers seem to be in a huge hurry, so instead of working with their interviews, which of course takes time and editing, they’ve taken the easy route by delivering perhaps 85% of the story through narration.
The host is competent enough (if perhaps a little sing-songy at times), but I find myself longing for the relief of other voices. The pacing is also rushed, with very little non-talking space, and the result is a relentless, breathless, onslaught of words from one person. It becomes seriously fatiguing.
I’ll finish it, but really people, you could have done better. And I have such respect for Laura Krantz, whose original Wild Thing podcast was one of the most enjoyable things I’ve ever heard. I wish she had done more to bring her strong stylistic sense to this production.

I had no idea about the history of wine in America and the hoopla that surrounded white Zinfandel. This was a well written podcast. It delves into the history of California wine and the family drama of an Italian American wine family. It was a good listen. Wondery never lets disappoints.

I was so excited to find this podcast series because it had so many episodes; however, once I listened to the first one, I was so disappointed. The hosts sound like 15 year old foul mouthed (yes it does warn as explicit)teenagers with their unnecessary cussing and their usage of “like” constantly. I get cussing to emphasize something, but theirs was not needed. Very tacky. They also laugh and giggle throughout the episode. I was very disappointed. I’m hoping they have gotten better with more episodes.
