Episode five has graphic descriptions and recordings of police violence against Autistic people. There should be a content warning on this, as it is incredibly disturbing.

An interesting podcast that effectively explores the history and current reality of Autistic people in the US through one man’s story. Well-researched and we get lots of Don’s voice about his life as well as other actually autistic voices.

Thank you so much for this podcast. This latest episode (ep.6) really hit on what I have been feeling and saying for years. As a mom to a severely autistic son I have felt that most of the exposure to educating people about autism focuses on less severe forms of autism. It is great, but it does make those of us who love and care for someone who is more impacted by autistic characteristics, a bit left in the dark. And sometimes it even feels like the rest of the community doesn’t understand just how challenging it can be. I really am grateful and appreciative that you spent an episode really addressing this and all the other issues people in the community are dealing with (i.e. race).

It is hard as an autistic to listen to this podcast. Many of us do not prefer person first language. I personally prefer to be called autistic not a person with autism. I do not know Donald’s preferences, but I do hope you are honoring them in your reporting.

Second, episode 5 should come with a trigger warning for police violence against autistics. Especially since you included actual audio from the interaction.

Finally, just because some autistics do not communicate verbally, does not mean you can mention that and then leave their stories out of your podcast. All people need to be heard.
