Excellent podcast. It has a quirky small town cold case combined with a modern detective story without the usual grisly true crime element that floods the podcast scene.
It’s really well told and skillfully produced. Each episode leaves me ready to play the next. Looking forward to the next eps dropping soon.
It’s sweet and funny and curious; it has lovely themes and features lovely and interesting characters.
It’s a pleasant departure from many podcasts that attempt similar things in that it’s entertaining and leaves you feeling that maybe the world isn’t so terrible after all.

I’ve gotta be honest, I am not a podcast guy. It drives me insane to just listen to something. Why listen to a podcast or audiobook when you can watch a video or read a book?!
But this one is different.
“Are you, Captain Purple?” hooked me from the very start. If you love Lawrence County and the history that makes this place special, you’ll enjoy it. I’ve always been fascinated by the pyramids in Needmore and the mystery of Captain Purple. I grew up hearing my Mamaw and Papaw tell stories about both, and like any good local legend, nobody really knows the full truth. Every person you talk to has something new to add.
That’s what makes this podcast so special. Hearing familiar voices. Hearing our people tell the story. Knowing that little Bedford, Indiana has carried a 40+ year mystery about a quiet do-gooder who chose kindness over credit.
In a world that feels busy, chaotic, and full of bad news, this story is a reminder that we can still “LOVE ONE ANOTHER 👣” and look out for our neighbors.
