I love the in depth interviews on special topics. I’ve listened to lots of general history podcasts that just give textbook summaries of battles and great men. This podcast goes into the weeds on big ideas of history and philosophy and really gets me thinking.

…and I love it. I listen to a LOT of history podcasts; it’s probably my favorite genre. But I find this one very refreshing. It’s not a timeline podcast, instead he dives into subjects. But what really sets it above the others is the quality of his guests, the depth of coverage of the topic, and the novel ideas that are presented that really get the gears churning (to mix some metaphors).
Whereas, I’m sure there are others that use this style, I find this one to be on a whole other level. Looks like the last episode was released in DEC 2023. I hope with all my heart that he is just taking a break and that he continues to produce quality content. Definitely a life enricher.

Great show. Just finished listen to the Platonic series. Lantern Jack nails both the original intent of the author and its impact on philosophy, without getting into the “deconstructionism” you’d encounter in a University. His guest lecturers made Plato assessable to me in certain ways that I haven’t experienced. And it’s all for free. A glimmer of hope in this dark world. Thanks!

The host has a great ability to make points vivid to a contemporary audience. This is combined with scholarly rigor, often in the form of discussions with experts. Occasional disagreements aside (did Kant seek to argue for morality by pointing out positive consequences that come from it?), this is a very good podcast.
