What sets American Railroad apart is its deeply immersive storytelling. Each episode is a symphony of perspectives, featuring interviews with historians, artists, and descendants of the railroad workers who built the tracks that connected a burgeoning nation. The voices are diverse and authentic, painting a picture of the railroads not merely as industrial achievements but as conduits of culture, struggle, and resilience. The podcast also excels in its exploration of the Silkroad Ensemble's music, which serves as both a soundtrack and a narrative force.

I am continually inspired as a musician, historian, and just person by Giddons’ work. She brings to light untold stories while weaving in bits of her own. She is honoring and interacting with history, folk music, and cultural heritage in a way not many people do, or at least share to the wider world. Important work for so many reasons, with all the emotional power that music can wield.

I really love this podcast and am so grateful to have found it! I particularly enjoyed listening to the New York episode. The music was gorgeous and the story allowed me a peak into what life might have been like for some of my ancestors who came to New York from Ireland. Excellent storytelling!
