This companion podcast to Dara Horn’s new book People Love Dead Jews takes listeners beyond the book to some of the strangest corners of Jewish history, exploring how the popular mania for dead Jews warps our understanding of both past and present. In this series, you’ll meet flamboyantly gay Civil War Jewish spies, Japanese “Jewish specialists” trying to build their own Jewish state, genius Victorian identical twins and genius Lubavitcher identical twins, American and Soviet Jewish moviemakers hoping to become Hebrew prophets, adorable imaginary Jewish children, and a very righteous Tyrannosaurus Rex. With these strange, dark, hilarious, and fascinating stories, Dara Horn guides listeners through the outsized role that dead Jews play in other people’s imaginations— and sometimes still play in ours. Dara Horn does a tremendous job in covering this subject. There’s an incredible dark humor and cutting truth to her new podcast and book, “People Love Dead Jews.” Many in the world are shameful, as to whether or not they are willing to confront the truth in their own hearts and thoughts as to how they regard both living and dead Jews. Dara’s approach to confronting this matter is brilliant and gutsy. There are few authors who would let their voice rise to this level in trying to awaken a fading interest in propelling justice and the better part of humanity. I have to wonder what we can expect next from the author!
Dara’s scholarship and attention to detail is coupled with her unmatched story-telling talent makes her podcasts not just informative and educational, but engaging and addictive. Not many authors can take their impeccable writing skills and translate those to verbal narration. Dara Horn harnesses these skills for the benefit of all who are willing to listen. I recommend Dara and her podcasts and books to everyone!
One of my favorite podcasts. I love the way she delivers information. She acknowledges the humor inherit in history while giving these stories a context I haven’t heard anyone else do.
Even if you know a lot of Jewish history, you are sure to learn something new when you listen to Adventures with Dead Jews. I also love all of Dara Horn’s books. Highly recommend!
