If you aren’t listening to 99PI, you’re missing out on incredible storytelling, fantastic writing, and a charismatic host with the perfect voice for podcasting. Roman Mars could tell a story about a rock and I would listen, because he would make it fascinating. Every episode surprises me!

Completely immersive - the music, the sound of the narrater’s voice, the thread of the story. I listen to podcasts and audiobooks all the time, but this one I listen to when I can give it my undivided attention. Not while driving. Not while working. Definitely while doing dishes or walking by rivers. The tales are unexpected, and the twists make me think. Truly excellent.

To the 99PI team: whenever Roman Mars says that for now y’all are scattered across the continent to create this, but in your hearts you’re still in beautiful, downtown Oakland California, I cry. Every damned time. It epitomizes and encapsulates this odd period in history perfectly. Thanks for all you do.

99% Invisible earned itself a spot in my Podcast Hall of Fame for its fascinating exploration of various issues related to design. You may think of design as something related to architecture or interior decorating, but this podcast goes much deeper than that. Issues covered include the social and political effects of every design decision made for every little thing in our human-created world. It really does a great job at exploring topics of things that you would never think of and making them fascinating. Each episode typically has interviews with experts in the field as well. If I could recommend just one podcast for people to listen to, this would be it.

I’ve been listening for about seven years now and every time I finish one, I’ve learned something about the world and myself. I’m never disappointed. The story telling and sound design is the best out there, because of the use of music and patterns and voices and pauses. You don’t even realize it composed like a poem or a song, it’s just beautiful.
This podcast made me realize that social work, my field, is a design field and that design is fundamental to equity. That notion changes everything about how I approach what I do.
Thank you to the 99PI founder and team for all your amazing work!

This was once my favorite podcast, Romans soothing voice along with some amazingly interesting stories made for some very entertaining episodes. But this podcast has become a symbol of nepotism by the fact that there are more episodes from Romans friends than actual original episodes. If you are going to make 99% invisible episodes, I’m all for it. But if you’re going to abuse the trust of your listeners by forcing other shows on my feed, then I’ll just unsubscribe.

This used to be one of my favorite podcasts with interesting stories about design but now I’m unsubscribing. Lately all the stories are political and that’s not what I am looking for here. It’s easy to find political stories. I miss the old 99% but they’ve lost what made it worth my time.
