You Are Error

by Aftermath

You Are Error is Aftermath’s podcast about common misconceptions in and around video games. Each episode interviews a different guest about something that either games or the people who play them frequently get wrong: It could be something mechanical, like climbing. It could be something born of narrative and world building, like Cyberpunk 2077’s obsession with artificial limbs and exoskeletons, as opposed to what disabled people in the real world actually want and need. A topic could be fairly lighthearted in nature, like horses, or it could be heavier, like an exploration of how arms manufacturers use games as advertisements. Regardless, the goal is not to chide or condescend, but to explain how we got here and what it all means – both for games themselves and for culture more broadly. Games matter. Let’s start treating them that way.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

The premise of the show is great but the standard interview format focuses the conversations more on general grievances than specific case studies that would both illustrate the episode topic and allow for concise critique. Right now the show is too bogged down in the guests’ negative views on games, and isn’t leading each interview toward solutions beyond “be better, games.” I’m here because I like games, so the ideal version of this show gives critique while also casting specific vision for a better industry.

TDaswick · Dec 2024

While I think that the format of the show could benefit from more prepared anecdotes specifically related to games (for example, in if books could kill, which is cited as an inspiration, there is often a work that serves as the basis for critique with specific passages pulled and analyzed), i did really love the first episode and thought rami had an urgently important viewpoint to share. looking forward to more and to your future success!
