My nine-year-old and I have been listening to this podcast together; it’s such good family fun! Three or four episodes in, JAJ is hitting his stride, both in Grinchiness and witty banter. We hope there will be future seasons so we can make this a holiday tradition.

Kidding! This is a great show. My daughter listens to the shows over and over again at night and has them memorized by guest. We listen to it in the car and laugh, she listens to it at bed time. I’ve sent it to friends with kids too! All around great!

Overall, I think this podcast is fun. My 12-year-old enjoys listening to it on the way home from school. However, there are topics that shouldn’t be taken seriously. For example, the Grinch teaches kids how to make prank calls and thinks it’s funny!! I had to remind my child that this is just a story, prank calls should not be made. :-) There is also a segment that satirizes parents making an “early” bedtime of 9 o’clock. It seems to criticize parents for making their children go to bed so early. Again, it’s supposed to be humor, but just be aware that some of the content should be listened to with a parent to correct any misperceptions.

The show isn’t what you expect — it’s James Austin Johnson, as the Grinch, interviewing a strange collection of people and not a reptilian of any Grinch book or movie content. The show is always charming, but it is admittedly a little slow until about the third episode. Then everyone seems to find their niche. JAJ’s Grinch reminds one more of Robin Williams than Jim Carrey but with a slightly crankier approach. It’s perfect for taking the kids on a commute and you will laugh along at some of the snarkier moments. So funny, in fact, I, an ostensible adult, listen even when there are no children around.
